Hakata was divided into seven districts by Hideyoshi Toyotomi in 1586, and soon after carrying the Yamakasa through their own districts became a competition for speed. At 4:59 in the morning of the 15th, the race between the districts named the Oiyamakasa takes place, and it is said to be a soul-shaking one hour to follow.

Aomori Nebuta Festival
【Date】 August 2-7
【Area】 Aomori
【URL】 https://www.nebuta.jp/foreign/english.html
【Description】 Aomori Nebuta Festival is one of the three largest festivals in Tohoku area. The origin of this festival is believed to be related to a noble shogun from Heian Period, Sakanoue no Tamuramaro, who used flutes and taiko drums to attract the attention of the enemy during a battle. He defeated Aterui, the boss of Emishi tribes from Tohoku, and Aterui was beheaded in Kyoto. Aterui's family and followers were ordered to dig large holes where they were buried alive. "Ne" stands for the world of the dead, and "buta" stands for the dirt that covered their bodies. While the floats of Tamuramaro are carried, it is said that dancers called "Haneto(=bouncer)" stomp the ground to seal the dead.

According to a local folklore, Dec. 3 is the only date in a year in which the goddess enshrined in Chichibu Shrine and the god of Mt. Bukoh (they are in love!) can meet officially with permission from Suwa, the first wife of Mt. Bukoh. On the 3rd, as the parade goes into the climax, the night sky is decorated with beutiful winter fireworks as if celebrating their once-a-year affair!
